The 2026 Holiday in Spain & Portugal 18

 

We got up earlier than our plan.

Had breakfast (very tasty fruits!),

and before the check out time,

went out for a short walk in town

(basically for Geocaching).

予定していた時間より早起きした。

朝食をいただき（果物が美味！）、

チェックアウトの前に

ジオキャッシングという名の

短い散歩に出かけた。

Then it’s time to move to 

our final destination—Bilbao!

いよいよ最終目的地

ビルバオに向かって出発だ。

Just like the previous day,

we didn’t see many EV chargers

along the motorway.

高速道路沿いには

昨日同様

EV用充電器がほとんど

見受けられなかった！

We stopped at a service area

to have (horrible) sandwich

and charge the car.

サービスエリアで

昼食のサンドウィッチ（不味かった）

を食べ、車を充電した。

I love Bilbao.

This might be my 4th or 5th time.

My husband regularly used to

go to Amorebieta, which isn’t 

very far from Bilbao.

I occasionally joined him

and enjoyed sightseeing.

ビルバオは私の大好きな街。

20年近く前、夫は出張でよく

ビルバオから遠くないアモレビエタに

来ていたのだが、

時々私も同行して

ビルバオを1人で観光した。

This time I did sightseeing

with my husband and Benji.

The Portugalete area looked 

very different from

the time I first visited there.

It looked more modernised.

今回は夫とベンジーが一緒だ。

ポルトゥガレテは

私が初めて訪れた時に比べて

かなり変わっている印象だ。

以前よりかなりモダンに

なっていた。

We went on Vizcaya Bridge,

the world's oldest transporter bridge.

It’s a Unesco Heritage site.

まずビスカヤ橋を利用した。

世界最古の運搬橋であり、

ユネスコ世界遺産である。

And we got a ferry back 

across the river.

そして帰りは橋ではなく

船で川を渡った。

For dinner we went to a pinchos pub

in Portugalete.

There were a lot of people eating outdoors

and we enjoyed the atmosphere.

夕食はポルトゥガレテの

ピンチョスパブで頂いた。

多くの人で賑わっていて

外で食事をしながら

その雰囲気を楽しんだ。

In the morning, we spent a lot of time,

cleaning the house.

The landlady came to check on the house,

and she was happy with it.

Now were ready to start

our journey home.

午前中は宿の清掃に勤しんだ。

隣に住むオーナーさんがチェックに来た。

家の状態に満足してくれた。

いよいよこれで

帰路に付く準備ができた。

We saw some signs of

wild files along the motorways of

both in Spain and Portugal,

but almost no EV chargers

along the motorways!

高速道路沿いには

今年の夏に多発した

山火事の跡がたくさん見られた。

でも、高速道路沿いに

EV用充電器がほとんど

見受けられなかった！

And the car’s SatNav brought us to 

a peculiar place with some EV chargers.

We had to download an app to use them,

but the Internet signal was really weak

and it wasn’t very easy.

充電器のために車のナビは結局

とても不思議な場所に

車を導いてくれた。

充電器を使うにはアプリを

ダウンロードする必要があったが、

その場所のインターネットのシグナルが

非常に弱くてかなり苦労した。

Our destination this day was León in Spain.

We stayed in a dog friendly hotel,

at the edge of the centre.

今日の目的地はスペインのレオン。

中心部の端っこにある

犬も泊まれるホテルに泊まった。

First, I went to buy some souvenirs 

at El Corte Inglés

(my favourite department store!).

まず、エル・コルテ・イングレス

（相も変わらず！）

にお土産を買いに行った。

The dinner was included in the hotel deal.

It was at a Tapas restaurant nearby,

but the set dinner wasn’t Tapas😅

夕食はホテルの費用に含まれていた。

近くのタパスレストランでの

食事であったが、

何故かタパスではなかった😅

After dinner we went to see 

Catedral de León.

It was after dark,

but the plaza was very busy

and there was even a guided tour group.

夕食後にレオン大聖堂を見に行った。

既に暗くなっていたのだが、

広場はとても賑わっていた。

までいたのには驚いた。

It was very surprising to see

the streets with bars are restaurants

were unbelievably packed—

even including families with small children,

eating and drinking outside.

I’ve never seen anything like this.

もっと驚いたのは、

レストランやバーがある通りは

信じられないくらいの人々で溢れていた。

小さい子供連れの家族もたくさんいて、

外でみんな飲み食いしているのだ。

かなり夜も遅いのに。

こんな風景は見たことがなかった。

It rained for the first time on this holiday.

It was great for Benji

who doesn’t like hot weather,

but not great for us

今回の旅行でこの日初めて雨が降った。

暑さが苦手なベンジーにとっては

恵の雨であるが

我々人間にとっては

ちょっと残念な天気だ。

It wasn’t heavy rain

and stopped after a while.

So we cycled to the vet.

土砂降りでもなかったし

しばらく降った後上がったので

自転車で獣医まで行った。

The vet surgeon was very kind,

and the cost was incredibly low

compared with Ireland.

And Benji was very healthy😃

獣医さんはとても親切で

その上費用もアイルランドの

およそ1/10！

ベンジーも健康で問題ないそうだ😃

In the afternoon,

we went to Castro of Sao Lourenco

for Geocaching.

It was a very interesting site.

午後にはCastro of Sao Lourenco

という遺跡にジオキャッシングに

出かけた。

中々興味深い場所だった。

This night was our last night in Portugal,

so we went out for a dinner at 

a restaurant called “O Buraco”.

It was a lovely, friendly restaurant.

その夜がポルトガルでの最後の夜だったので、

夕食は「O Buraco」という

レストランでいただいた。

とても美味しい、感じの良いレストランだった。

スターターは「カルド・ヴェルデ」

We shared a grilled sea bass for main course

メインには「スズキ」

For dessert, I had a clarinha,

and my husband had an apple crumble.

デザートには私はクラリーニャ、

夫はアップルクランブルを選択。

A boy who was sitting at the next table

kindly gave us his left over stake for Benji.

Benji was delighted!

隣のテーブルでステーキを

食べていた少年が、

食べきれなかったステーキを

「ベンジーにどうぞ」と

分けてくれた。

なんて優しい少年！

ベンジーも大喜び。
