The 2026 Birthday Trip in Bruges, Belgium 6

 

It was the last day in Bruges for this holiday.

We decided to go to the centre again in the morning

It was a crispy sunny day.

この日がブルージュでの最終日だった。

午前中に再び中心部に行くことにした。

少々寒いが晴れた良いお天気だった。

While my husband was doing 

the Geocaching revenge,

I went to a shop called "Hema"

and bought a lot of Miffy goods

(in Belgium, not in the Netherlands😅).

This shop is a bit like "Flying Tiger".

夫が昨日見つけられなかった

キャッシュのリベンジをしている間、

私は「Hema」という店に行って

ミッフィーグッズをたくさん購入した

（オランダではなくてベルギーで😅）。

この店は「フライングタイガーコペンハーゲン」

みたいな店だ。

Reunited with my husband

who was very happy after finding some caches,

he bought a Tupperware bowl

for my birthday😆

I was delighted to find I could buy

a Tupperware product without

attending a Tupperware party!

I will use it carefully for a long time!

キャッシュのリベンジを果たして

満足している夫と合流し、

タッパーウェアの店を見つけたので

私の誕生日プレゼントに

大きなボウルを買ってくれた。

タッパーウェアパーティーに参加せずに

本物のタッパーウェアを購入できるとは！

大切に使おうと決意した。

We went home, packed up,

and left for Dunkirk.

その後帰宅し、荷造りをし、

そしてダンカークに向けて出発した。

We stopped at Kasteel Beauvoorde

to have sandwich lunch on the castle grounds.

ベオーヴォールデ城に寄って

城の庭でサンドウィッチを食べることにした。

Unfortunately, the castle itself was closed for renovation,

but it is a beautiful.

お城自体は改装のため閉まっていたが、

美しいお城であった。

After lunch, we visited De Panne,

beautiful dunes near the border to France.

The sand comes from Sahara desert!

昼食後、デ・パンネという

フランスとの国境近くにある

砂丘に行ってみた。

ここの砂はサハラ砂漠から

風で吹き飛ばされてきたものだそうだ！

Went to Hypermarket Carrefour to buy some souvenirs,

and also went to Nissan dealer to buy a tow ring

to avoid a confrontation on the ferry we had on the first day.

カールフールハイパーマーケットに寄ってお土産を購入し、

そして来るときのフェリーでタイヤを固定するのに必要だった

けん引きリングを購入するために日産ディーラーに寄った。

What a surprise!

Not only they kindly showed us how to attach the ring,

they gave us the ring for free!!

Very generous and kind.

日産の人々は本当に親切だった。

けん引きリングの取り付け方を

丁寧に教えてくれただけでなく、

何とそのリングを無料で提供してくれたのだ！

その優しさと寛大さに感激した。

We safely arrived at Dunkirk.

We had a bit of time before the boarding time,

so my husband did some Geocaching (naturally!).

無事にダンカークに到着した。

フェリーに乗るまでに少し時間があったので、

夫のジオキャッシングに付き合った。

At the port, we checked in at the office.

There was a very friendly French staff waiting.

He said he has relatives in Dundalk in Ireland,

speaking English very fluently with a Dundalk accent😃

He also said he is studying Japanese in Japanese.

港では事務所でチェックインした。

とてもフレンドリーなフランス人のスタッフがいて

アイルランドのダンドークに親戚がいるのだと

流暢なそしてダンドークのアクセントのある英語で

話してくれた。

また、日本語を勉強中だと日本語で話した。

On the ferry

船中で

We met a friendly German couple with a dog

on the boat.

The wife was crocheting something on the deck.

(I didn't bring any yarn or needle on board

as I tend to get sea sick.)

船中では犬連れのドイツ人夫婦と少し話した。

奥さんの方はデッキでかぎ針編みをしていた。

（私は船酔いするので編み物類は全く持ってこなかった。）

The husband was taking a lot of photos from the deck.

He was able to take a good photo with his SLR camera

when my husband spotted a dolphin through binoculars.

旦那さんの方はデッキで海に向かって写真を撮っていた。

夫が双眼鏡を覗いていてイルカを発見した時も

写真に収めることに成功し、写真を転送してくれた。

When we arrived at Rosslare,

we went to the wrong deck and couldn't find our car.

But the crew were so kind and friendly and helpful

and we were escorted to our car.

ロスレア港に到着し、客室から車に戻る際、

デッキを間違えてしまい車が見つからなかった😅

乗務員がとても親切に対応してくれ、

車までエスコートしてくれた。

感謝。

On this day, we decided to go to Netherlands.
However, we had to go to the vet
so that Benji would be allowed to
come back to Ireland.

この日は国境を超えてオランダに行くことにした。
しかしながらその前にブルージュで
獣医に行く予定があった。
ベンジーがアイルランドに戻るために必要な
薬を飲まなければならないからだ。

The veterinary practice was run by 
a very chatty, friendly, and young female vet.
We spent a long time.
She even cleaned Benji's teeth,
which we hadn't planned to do.
Benji had to be mildly anaesthetised
for this procedure,
so he was dopy for a while after that.

獣医さんは、若い女医さんで
おしゃべり好きな楽しい人であった。
かなり長い時間を動物病院で過ごした。
全く想定していなかったのだが、
ベンジーの歯の洗浄をすることになってしまった。
そのためにベンジーは軽めの麻酔を打つことになった。
その後しばらくベンジーはぼーっとしていた。

We drove to Retranchement,

a posh Dutch town with a lot of mature people

sipping coffee or having lunch.

My husband wanted to go there for Geocaching.

夫がジオキャッシングをしたいと

オランダのレトランヘメントまで行った。

ここは定年退職後の中年夫婦が

お茶をしたりランチを食べたりという

ちょっと高級な感じのする街であった。

We didn't join them for lunch.

Instead, we had sandwiches

my husband had prepared.

私たちはレストランやカフェで

優雅にランチを食する人々とは異なり、

夫が作ってくれたサンドウィッチを

ベンジで食べた。

Before having the sandwich,

I went to a supermarket called "Jumbo"

to buy some crisps.

The prices seem to be a bit higher than Belgium.

サンドウィッチを食べる前に、

私は「ジャンボ」というスーパーに行って

ポテトチップスを購入した。

ベルジーより物価が高い印象を受けた。

After Geocaching,

we drove to "Cadzand" beach.

There was a Miffy sign.

ジオキャッシング後、

カトザントという浜辺まで行った。

ミッフィーのサインが可愛い。

My husband went for a swim.

He said the water was really cold.

夫は海で泳いだ。

水はやはりとても冷たかったそうだ。

After dinner my husband went to Bruges

to find "Where to Go" caches.

I stayed home.

He said he found no cache....

夕食後、夫はブルージュに行き、

「Where to Go」という

特別なキャッシュを探しに行った。

結果は1つも見つからなかったそうだ。

It was my birthday.

First my husband went to Aldi to collect the car.

Then he went to a bakery and bought pastries

for breakfast and bread for lunch.

He made sandwiches for lunch.

この日は私の誕生日だった。

まず、夫がAldiに徒歩で車を取りに行き、

帰りに朝食用のデニッシュペイストリーと

昼食用のパンを買ってきてくれた。

そして昼食用のサンドウィッチも作ってくれた。

Our plan was driving to Ghent.

今日はゲントに行くことにした。

First we went on the canal cruise

in the city centre.

まず午前中は中心部の

運河クルーズを体験した。

After the cruise trip,

we walked to Groenevalleipark

to have the sandwich for lunch.

運河クルーズの後、

Groenevalleiparkという公園に行き、

用意したサンドウィッチを食べた。

We walked back to the town after lunch

to do more sightseeing.

昼食後、街に戻って観光した。

We took a tea break at

Drove home, had a rest,

and drove again to Bruges for

my birthday dinner at Vlaminck'14.

My husband found this 

dog friendly restaurant

with a help from Copilot😅

この後帰宅し、少し休憩し、

ブルージュに車で行った。

犬も入れるレストランで

私の誕生日をお祝いするためだ。

夫はこのレストランを

Copilotを使って見つけた😅

I was planning to try Paling in 't groen

a Beligum eel meal.

But the restaurant didn't have it 

on the menu.

ベルギーの名物料理

「Paling in 't groen（うなぎのグリーンソース）」

を試したかったが、

そのレストランのメニューにはなかった。

I chose to wear a red clothes!

還暦なので一応赤色を着用した！

When the dessert was being served,

everybody in the restaurant

sang "Happy Birthday" for me.

It was lovely!!

デザートが運ばれてきた時、

レストラン内全員の人が

一緒に「ハッピーバースデー」を

歌ってくれた。

すごく感激してしまった。

It was really a memorable birthday.

Thank you, hubby!

本当に思い出に残る誕生日となった。

夫よ、ありがとう！

I drove the car

as my husband had wine.

夫はワインを飲んだので

私が運転して帰宅した。

 This day, we drove to the city centre

and parked the par in an underground car park.

We found a EV charger in the car park,

so we decided to charge our car.

We noticed later that in this part of Belgium,

almost every car park has a few EV chargers.

Incredibly good.

この日はブルージュの市街地まで車で出かけた。

地下の駐車場に停めたのだが、

電気自動車の充電設備があったので、

充電することにした。

これはその後に気づくのだが、

ベルギーではほぼ全ての駐車場に充電器が備えてある。

他では見たことなかったのでとても感心した。

There is an Irish bar at the main square and

we saw a family of Irish people who were (probably)

going to perform Irish dancing in the bar.

This day was St. Patrick's Day.

中心部の広場にアイリッシュパブがあり、

そこでアイリッシュダンスを披露するのであろう

と思われる家族を見た。

この日は聖パトリックの日だからだ。

We went to Singe D'Or for lunch.

I had shrimps in garlic,

my husband had mussels & chips.

昼食はSinge D'Orというレストランで食べた。

私はガーリックシュリンプ、

夫はムール・フリット。

After lunch we drove to　Oostende Beach.

It was a nice beach.

昼食後にオステンド海岸に向かった。

散歩にぴったりの海岸だ。

However, we realised that

Benji had lost his favourite toy--Benji Bone in Bruge.

So we had to drive back to town to look for it

after a walk on the beach.

しかしながら、海岸に着いた時

ベンジーがお気に入りのおもちゃ（Benji Bone）を

ブルージュで失くしてしまったことに気づいた。

海岸で短い散歩後、おもちゃを探しにブルージュに戻った。

I didn't think we could find it.

Also I had brought a spare Benji Bone,

so it wasn't a disaster.

(Benji goes everywhere with the bone😅）

見つかるはずがないと私は諦めていた。

それに、万が一のことを考えて

スペアのBenji Boneも持参していた。

（ベンジーはこのおもちゃなしではどこにも行かない😅）

My husband found it in a flower bed

not very far from Singe D'Or!

A couple of hours had passed since then!

何と、Singe D'Orの近くの花壇で

夫がおもちゃを発見！

昼食後2、3時間経っているのにもかかわらず！

After dinner at home,

I drove the car to our local Aldi

to charge the car.

(My husband had wine at dinner

so he couldn't drive.)

夕食後、近くのスーパーAldiまで

私が運転し、車に充電した。

（夫は夕食時にワインを飲んでいたので

運転できなかった。）

At home, we watched the film

"In Bruges".

It was an enjoyable film 

with some Irish actors.

宿で映画「In Bruges」を見た。

アイルランド俳優も出演する

見応えのある映画であった。

Our first day in Bruges.

Got up not very late even though we had gone to bed

very late the previous night.

My husband drove to the local Carrefour

to buy some breakfast and other items.

He said things are more expensive than France.

ブルージュ1日目。

昨晩寝たのがものすごく遅かったが、

比較的早い時間に起床した。

夫が近くのスーパー、カールフールに行き、

朝食のクロワッサンや食材を買ってきてくれた。

物価はフランスより高いようだ。

After breakfast we walked to the city centre.

It took about 20 minutes.

The weather was lovely so it was enjoyable.

We watched out for any bakery or cake shop

but we couldn't find it on the way.

朝食後はブルージュの中心街まで歩いた。

二十分くらいかかった。

お天気がいいので気持ちよく散策できた。

途中でベーカリーやケーキ屋さんはないかチェックしたが

滞在している家の近くにはない感じであった。

We were still tired from the previous day's long journey

so we went home without sightseeing for today.

After lunch we went to the local laundrette.

We decided to stay in this apartment

as there is a washing machine provided.

However, it was broken!!

This apartment wasn't our first choice....

前日の長旅で疲れていたので

街の観光をせずに帰宅した。

昼食後には近所のコインランドリーに洗濯に行った。

このアパートに滞在する決め手になったのは

洗濯機があるからだったのだが、

その洗濯機が壊れていたのだ。

本当はアパートではなく家に滞在したかったのに...。

I turned 60 on 18 March this year.

My husband suggested going for a city break, 

like Paris or Vienna, to celebrate,

but I wanted to celebrate with our dog Benji,

so we decided to go somewhere on the boat.

Our favourite route between Rosslare and Cherbourg

with Stena Line was cancelled last year.

It was our favourite as the boat had a lot of

dog friendly cabins.

The route from Dublin to Cherbourg with

Irish Ferries only has limited dog friendly cabins.

This is the perfect opportunity to try

DFDS route from Rosslare to Dunkirk.

It has several dog friendly cabins.

We decided to go to Bruges in Belgium,

which is about 1 hour drive from Dunkirk.

今年の3月18日で還暦を迎えた。

還暦のお祝いにローマやウィーンなどの

シティブレークに行こうかと提案してくれた。

ローマもウィーンも行ったことないので（！！）

一瞬行きたい！と思ったが、

ベンジーを誰かに預けるのはかわいそうだし、

一緒に誕生日をお祝いしたかったので

フェリーに乗って1週間くらい出かけることにした。

私たちのお気に入りは

ロスレア港からシェルブール港まで、

ステナラインという船舶会社で行く方法だった。

犬も入れる客室がたくさんあるからだった。

残念ながらそのルートは去年廃止されてしまった。

ダブリン港からシェルブール港までのルートがある

アイリッシュフェリーズには犬も泊まれる

客室は数が限られている。

コーク港からロスコフ港というブリタニーフェリーズの

ルートもあるが、

今回初めてDFDSのロスレア港から

ダンカーク港へのルートを使うことにした。

犬も泊まれる客室もたくさんあるようだ。

ダンカークから車で1時間くらいで行ける

ベルギーのブルージュに滞在することに決めた。

The boat is scheduled to leave Rosslare at 22.30,

arrive at Dunkirk at 21.00 the following day.

It's too late to check in at AirB&B in Bruges on that day,

so we booked a hotel in Dunkirk that night.

フェリーはロスレア港を夜の十時半に出発し、

翌日の夜九時にダンカーク港に到着することになっている。

それからブルージュのAirB&Bに着くのは遅い時間になるので、

その夜はダンカークのホテルに1泊することになった。

However, the ferry from Rosslare to Dunkirk was

cancelled because of a storm!

We rebooked the following day's ferry,

but the schedule was changed and the arrival time

in Dunkirk got 0.00 am!

しかしながら、その日のフェリーが嵐のために

キャンセルになったのだ。

大慌てで翌日の便を予約したが、スケジュールが変更になり

ダンカーク港には翌朝の0時到着予定になった！

When we arrived at Rosslare port,

we were forced to wait for a long time.

This route is basically mostly for cargo trucks,

and there were only about 8 private cars.

And the sea was still rough so the crew wanted to 

tie the wheels of the private cars to the floor

of the car deck.

We are seasoned car ferry travellers

and we have encountered rough weather,

but we'd never had to do this before.

Our car's wheel covers are unremovable,

and they can't tie their rope.

One of the rude crew members got very angry,

and shouted at us 

"We can't tie the wheels. You have to leave the ship!"

Extremely rude.

That's not how customers to be treated!

In the end, another crew came up with an idea of

tying the rope to the tow ring of the car,

so we didn't have to leave the ship.

ロスレア港に着いたら、ものすごく待たされた。

この便は基本的に貨物を運ぶトラック用のルートなので、

大多数がトラックで、自家用車は8台くらいしかいなかった。

勿論、トラックを優先させている。

フェリーは出航するものの、海はまだ少々荒れているので、

自家用車が動かないように、スタッフが

タイヤをカーデッキの床に結びつけようとしている。

私たちはほぼ毎年のように犬連れでフェリーに乗って

フランスやスペインに行ってるので

荒れた海も何度か経験しているが、

車のタイヤをロープで床に固定するのは初めてである。

私たちの車のホイールキャップは取り外せないタイプで、

これではロープで固定できないとスタッフの1人が怒り出し、

私たちに

「船を降りろ！」と叫び始めた。

客に向かって取る態度ではない。

非常識すぎる。

結局、他のスタッフがけん引用の輪っかに

ロープを通して固定する方法をとってくれ、

私たちは船を降りずに済んだ。

The journey itself was good.

The food was OK, the cabin crew were friendly,

but the good thing about this boat is,

you can bring your dog to the lounge area.

Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant or bar areas,

but you can eat with your dog at the lounge area

if you bring your food there.

That was great!

I took a sea sickness tablet and had coke (for cinnamon),

and was mostly asleep during the 23 hour sea journey.

フェリーの旅そのものは快適だった。

食事もまずまずだった。

レストランやバーのエリアには犬は入れないが、

ラウンジのエリアには連れて行くことができた。

食事はレストランから食べ物を持ってきて

ベンジーと一緒に食べることができたのは

本当にありがたかった。

We arrived at Dunkirk after midnight,

and drove all the way to Bruges

The landlord of the AirB&B was very flexible

and met us to give us the key around at 3 am!

ダンカーク港に着いたのは午前一時過ぎ。

そのままブルージュまで車を走らせた。

AirB＆Bのオーナーは夜中の三時ごろにもかかわらず

私たちに鍵を渡すために出てきてくれた。
