The 2026 Holiday in Spain & Portugal 7

 We initially thought this day was supposed to be

the most relaxing day of this stay in Spain.

How wrong we were!!

この日はユックリとリラックスして

過ごそうと決めていた。

それが非常に疲れる1日になってしまった！

We decided to cycle to El Corte Inglés,

the department store, from our accommodation.

It looked very doable.

（スペインのデパート）に

自転車で行ってみることにした。

There was a lot of uphill cycling,

and it was particularly tough for my husband

who had no electric help and

and had to carry Benji on the "Buddy Rider".

急な上り坂も多く、

ベンジーと「Buddy Rider」を乗せて

電動自転車ではない自転車の夫には

大変だったようだ。

However, we arrived safely in 35 minutes.

Parked our bikes, went into the store with Benji.

My husband bought a short sleeve shirt,

and 2 pairs of shorts.

35分で無事に到着し、

自転車を駐車し、ベンジーと共に中に入った。

夫は半袖シャツと

短パンを2本購入した。

We cycled to the centre.

We wanted to buy sandwich for lunch,

but it wasn't successful and

ended up having a sit down lunch

at a restaurant called "Café Bar Paris".

その後中心部まで自転車で行った。

昼食用にサンドウィッチを買おうと試みたが

結局「Café Bar Paris」というレストランで

昼食を食べることになってしまった。

As the route from the accommodation to

the department store was very steep,

my husband wanted to choose a less steep route.

So we followed the bicycle route

suggested by Apple Map.

It was a big mistake.

宿からデパートまでのルートが

坂道が多かったので、

帰りはApple Mapが提案する

坂の少ない自転車用のルートを

行くことにした。

これが大失敗だった。

Apple Map made us go on the motorway!!

Bicycles are not allowed!!

No matter what we did,

it forced us to use the motorway.

Apple Mapが高速道路に導くのだ！！

当然自転車は入れない！！

色々と道を行ってみたが

Apple Mapは高速道路を使わせようとする。

We tried Google Map.

And eventually it came up with the route

that doesn't involve using the motorway,

but involve going over a mountain!!

Google Mapを使ってみた。

最終的には高速道路を使わないルートを

推奨してくれたのだが、

それは山を越えるルートであった！！

It was really difficult to walk up,

pushing my heavy electric bike.

Poor my husband had to push 

the both bikes up to the top.

私の電動自転車は本当に重く、 

炎天下でそれを押して

山道を登るのは本当に大変だった。

結局夫が自分の自転車と

私の自転車の両方を押して

やまの頂上まで行ってくれた。

It took more than 1 hour to go home....

結局家に帰るのに1時間以上かかってしまった。

We got very very tired....

二人とも疲れ果ててしまった。

Later that day, though

my husband wanted to go to

Praia Fluvial de Pontevea

for the beach experience.

It is a dog friendly river beach.

しかしながらその後、

夫が「Praia Fluvial de Pontevea」

という川辺に行きたいと言うので、

行ってみることにした。

犬も泳げるビーチだ。

My husband swam,

so did Benji.

(And he rolled over on the sand

to make himself really dirty.)

夫とベンジーは泳いだ。

ベンジーはその後

砂浜で体を乾かそうとして

すごく汚れてしまった😅

It was a beautiful beach,

but I didn't take photos

as there were a lot of topless ladies

and I didn't want people to think

I was secretly taking photos of those people😅

とてもきれいなビーチであったが、

トップレスの女性がたくさんいたので

写真を撮るのは控えた。

盗撮していると思われても困るので😅

On this day, we decided to drive to

the west coast.

この日は西海岸に行くことにした。

We drove to Noia, a pleasant seaside town.

We wanted to charge our car in the car park,

but we couldn't spot it

so we just parked at a supermarket car park.

まず、ノイアに行った。

駐車場で充電したかったのであるが

充電器が見つからなかったので

スーパーマーケットの駐車場に停めた。

It was very different from what we imagined.

We thought there is a swimming beach.

There was a promenade instead of a swimming beach.

想像とは違った感じであった。

泳げる浜辺とかがあると思っていたのだが、

海岸沿いに散歩道があるだけだった。

But there was a dog run with agility equipment.

So we had to make Benji do it.

しかしアジリティ用の設備のあるドッグランがあった。

早速ベンジーにやらせてみた。

He didn't enjoy it😅

ベンジーは楽しくなかったようだ😅

Then we moved on to Portosín.

I drove for the first time on this holiday.

After parking we walked around

looking for somewhere to eat for lunch.

It was about 12.30.

But all the places serve lunch after 1 or 1.30.

We had never seen this before.

その後はポルトシンに向かった。

ここからは私が運転した。

到着し、車を停めた後

昼食用のレストランを探して歩き回った。

時間は12時半くらいだったのだが、

レストランは全てランチは1時とか

1時半以降でないと用意できないと言われた。

こういう現象は初めてなので少々驚いた。

While looking for a place to eat,

we tried making a reservation

at a posh Michelin recommended restaurant,

but we were brutally turned away😅

昼食用のレストランを探している時に、

ミシュラン推薦の店があったので

予約しようと中に入ったのだが

「貴様たちのような来る場所ではない！」

という感じであっさり断られた😅

We ate at a restaurant called "Portofino".

「Portofino」というレストランに行った。

Then we moved on to Porto do Son to

see "Castro de Baroña",

an Iron Age fortified settlement.

Saw a funny car.

変な車を見かけた。

昼食後はポルト･ド･ソンに行った。

紀元前1世紀頃の古代の住居跡

カストロ･デ･バローニャを見るためである。

We saw a lovely beach near the place we parked,

but Benji wasn't allowed there.

The lifeguards felt sorry for us

so he gave us a frisbee.

車を停めた場所の近くに

素晴らしい浜辺を見つけたが

犬は連れて入れないということだった。

ガッカリしていると

ライフガードのお兄さんたちが

ベンジーにフリスビーをくれた。

We found Benji could swim near the site.

Benji didn't enjoy it😅

遺跡の近くで夫とベンジーは泳いだ。

ベンジーは楽しくなかったようだ😅

On our way home,

we dropped in "Eroski" (supermarket).

We have to always choose a supermarket

with an underground car park or

a car park with a roof

when Benji is with us.

Otherwise it's too hot for him.

帰宅途中にスーパーマーケット

「エロスキー」に寄った。

ベンジーが車に乗っている際に

スーパーに行く時には

常に地下駐車場か屋根のある駐車場に

停めるようにしている。

Today's big agendas are cycling and petroglyphs.

Our plan is cycling in the relatively local area

and see the petroglyphs.

We brought our bicycles and 

a buddy rider (bicycle seat for a dog)

all the way from Ireland.

今日の予定は、宿の近くを自転車で回り、

ペトログリフを見ることであった。

自転車2台と犬用のシートを

アイルランドから持ってきた。

The cycling was a bit hard

as there were a lot of steep slopes

and it started to rain a bit.

急な坂道を登るルートが多くて

少々大変だったのと

少し雨が降ってきたりしたが

楽しかった。

A pretty church I saw

可愛い教会があった

Came home, had lunch.

My husband and Benji had a nap.

But I went cycling to the local bakery.

It closes at 3pm and I wanted to buy

nice croissants for breakfast.

サイクリング後帰宅し、昼食を取った。

その後夫とベンジーは昼寝をしたが

私は宿から一番近いベーカリーまで

自転車で出掛けてみた。

周辺のベーカリーは午後3時に閉店するのだが、

その前に朝食用のクロワッサンを買いたかったのだ。

It was in an easy cycling distance,

and the lady at the bakery was friendly,

but they didn't have any croissants.

I bought a massive fruit tart for my husband,

and a massive chocolate coated palmier

only for €4!!

(I forgot to take photos.)

自転車で5分くらいの距離だったし、

ベーカリーの店員さんは親切だったが、

クロワッサン等のパンは売っていなかった。

バゲットは売っていたが、

ケーキ屋さんに近い感じだった。

夫のために大きなフルーツタルトと

私のために大きなチョコレートパルミエを

なんとたった４ユーロで購入。

Before dinner, my husband wanted to

find the 8th type of cache called

"Letterbox Cache".

After about 3 km walking

he found it (or I found it) 

and completed the challenge.

夕食前に夫が8種類目のキャッシュを探したいと

言い出したので出かけることにした。

「Letterbox Cache」という種類だ。

3kmほど歩いた後何とか（私が）発見。

これでスペインは完了した。

Today's big agenda is to experience

Santiago de Compostela.

今日の大きな目的は

サンティアゴ・デ・コンポステーラを

観光することであった。

We drove to a multi-storey car park

with EV chargers as we wanted to charge our car.

However, some chargers were turned off (again!)

and all the working ones were occupied.

電気自動車の充電器のある立体駐車場に

行ってみたのだが、

電源の入っているものはみんな使用中で、

空いているのは電源の入っていないものばかりだった（まただよ）。

We drove around

aiming for the EV charger icons on the SatNav,

but most of them didn't exist.

カーナビの充電器のマークを目指して

いろんなところに行ってみたが

充電器は存在しない（やはりな）。

We tried another multi-storey car park

with 2 EV chargers and one of them was

Miraculously available and turned on!!

別の電気自動車の充電器のある立体駐車場に

行ってみたら、

2つのうち1つは空いていて

奇跡的に使用可能であった！

Santiago de Compostela

is the last stop for  

the Camino de Santiago

and Santiago de Compostela Cathedral

is one of the Unesco heritage sites.

So the main square is really

with pilgrims and tourists.

サンティアゴ・デ・コンポステーラは

サンティアゴ・デ・コンポステーラの巡礼路

の最終地点であり、

サンティアゴ・デ・コンポステーラ大聖堂は

ユネスコ世界遺産に登録されていることもあり

中心の広場は巡礼者と観光客で賑わっていた。

We walked around a bit

and had a sandwich for lunch in the park.

After lunch, we did more walking

for my husband's Geocaching.

(It's called "Reverse Here I Go")

街を少し散策した後

公園で昼食用に夫が作ってくれた

サンドウィッチを食べ、

その後夫のジオキャッシングに付き合って

再び街を歩いた。

「Reverse Here I Go」という

特別なキャッシュだそうだ。

My husband is aiming to find

8 different caches in 8 different countries

for Geocaching.

He has already found 8 different caches in

Ireland, Japan, Belgium so far.

This is the 7th type of cashe in Spain. 

 

夫はジオキャッシングで

8つのタイプのキャッシュを8カ国で見つける

というチャレンジに挑戦中だ。

アイルランド、日本、ベルギーで

すでに8種類のキャッシュを見つけた。

今回のでスペインで７種類目になる。

After breakfast at the motel,

we left Avilés in the morning.

モーテルでの朝食後、

午前中にアビレスを後にした。

Our plan is to stop at Guitiriz in Galicia,

to have lunch and charge our car.

This is our first time to be in Galicia.

We were in Asturias 8 years ago.

計画としては、ガリシア州のギティリスという街で

昼食及び充電休憩を取る予定であった。

ガリシア州に来るのは今回が初めてだ。

アストゥリアス州には8年前に来たことがあった。

That plan didn't work out well.

All the chargers at the service area

where we planned to have dinner were

turned off and unavailable.

(Spain is a bit of EV charger desert

compared with Belgium we went to in March.)

しかしその計画は上手く行かなかった。

昼食を食べようと思っていたサービスエリアの

充電器は全て電源が切られていて

使用できなかったのだ。

（3月に行ったオアシスのようなベルギーと比べたら

スペインはEV使用者には砂漠のような国だ。）

We identified a garage with a fast charger,

so, that part was solved.

But the garage didn't offer any lunch.

We asked the lady at the garage for 

restaurant recommendation.

She recommended a restaurant called

"O Korreo".

充電器のあるガソリンスタンドを

見つけて充電することができたのだが、

そのガソリンスタンドには

サンドウィッチ等昼食になるようなものは

何もなかった。

カウンターのお姉さんに

いいレストランはないか訊いてみたら

「O Korreo」というレストランを

勧めてくれた。

We had to drive back in the way

we came from.

There was some kind of

summer festival was going on 

at the main square.

今来た道をまた戻らなければならなかった。

そこでは広場で何か

サマーフェスティバルのようなものが

行われていた。

There were EV chargers

at the square, so we tried using it,

but it didn't work (again!).

広場の駐車場には充電器があったので

使おうとしたが使えなかった（またか！）。

Inside the restaurant,

we waited, waited, and waited

for 20 minutes but nothing happened.

We got fed up and left.

And went back to the first service area!

I got a nice toasted sandwich

and a friendly service from the staff.

レストランに入って席についたが

待っても待ってもスタッフは誰も来ず、

メニューも見せてもらえず、

20分経ってもほったらかしなので、

店を出た。

結局最初に行ったサービスエリアに戻り、

フレンドリーな店員さんから

美味しいサンドウィッチを購入した。

After wasting a lot of time for

the supposed to be a short break,

we hit the road to our accommodation.

30分くらいの休憩のつもりだったのが

色々あって1時間半以上かかってしまったが、

気を取り直して滞在する宿に

向かって出発した。

We safely arrived at the accommodation,

unpacked our stuff,

went to the local supermarket to buy some food.

My husband cooked a nice pasta dish for us.

無事に宿に到着し、

荷物を運び込んで落ち着いた後

近くのスーパーに行って食材を購入した。

夕食には夫がパスタを作ってくれた。

After dinner, we watched

"Broadchurch" season 1 on Netflix.

We had been watching it in Dublin.

It's very very tense.

My mind got so tense that

I couldn't sleep until about 3.30am....

夕食後にNetflixで

ダブリンで見ていた「Broadchurch」の

シーズン1の続きを見た。

とてもハラハラするような内容で

寝る前にそんなものを見てしまったので

心が落ち着きを失ってしまい

その夜は朝の3時半まで眠れなかった...。

We arrived at Bilbao the following afternoon.

As the regulation for the immigration control

has got stricter for non EU citizens since April this year,

I had to have my photo and finger prints taken.

But it was straightforward and there was no problem.

ビルバオには翌日の午後に到着した。

EU圏以外の国籍の人がシェンゲン条約加入国に

入国する際の規則が今年の4月から厳しくなり、

入国の際に写真と指紋を取る必要がある。

新しいルールであるが問題なくスムーズに進んだ。

We bought sandwiches and ate them for lunch

at La Sardinera Park, as we needed to walk Benji

after the long sea journey.

船内で昼食用のサンドウィッチを購入し、

サルディネラ公園で食べた。

長い船旅中ちゃんとベンジーを散歩させて

あげられなかったので、それも兼ねていた。

Our final destination in Spain was

near Santiago de Compostela in Galicia.

But it's a bit far away from Bilbao,

so we decided to break the journey in two,

and stayed at a dog friendly motel

in a town called Avilés in Asturias.

スペインでの滞在地はガリシア州の

サンティアゴ・デ・コンポステーラの近くであるが、

ビルバオからかなり遠いので、

途中でアストゥリアス州のアビレスという街の

犬も泊まれるモーテルに泊まった。

The motel was in the middle of nowhere,

but as it was a dog friendly accommodation

and it was a busy time in August,

the motel was full and most guests had a dog.

モーテルは何もない畑ばかりの場所に

ポツンと建っているのだが、

犬も泊まれることと8月というサマーシーズン

ということもあり満室だったようだ。

そして宿泊客のほとんどが犬連れであった。

We had Indian dinner at Taj Mahal.

It was really, really good!

スペインでの最初に夕食はインド料理だった。

でもものすごく美味しくて感動した。

My husband had an ice cream after dinner.

夫は夕食後にアイスクリームも食した。

We walked around the town after dinner,

But it was so enjoyable.

Lots of dog walkers and lots of families.

夕食の後街をしばらく散策したのだが、

とても楽しかった。

犬を散歩させている人もたくさんいたし、

子供づれの家族もたくさんいた。

I would like to come back here in future again.

またいつか戻ってみたい場所になった。

We celebrated our Silver Wedding this year.

And my husband wants to see the

total eclipse of the sun in Spain.

And I want to go to Portugal for summer holiday.

So we decided to both this year!

今年は銀婚式を迎えた。

そして夫は今年、スペインで日食を見たがっていた。

そして私は今年、ポルトガルに行きたかった。

と、いうことで思い切って

スペインとポルトガルの両方に行くことにした！

We boarded Brittany Ferry bound for Bilbao.

Of course we booked a dog friendly cabin.

This is our first time to take summer holiday

at the peak time. 

ビルバオ行きのブリタニーフェリーで出発。

もちろん、犬も泊まれる客室を予約した。

夏休みを8月に取るのは今回が初めてである。

I went to the nail salon,

spent a lot of time sleeping and knitting.

船内ではネイルサロンに行ったり、

あとはかなり長い間昼寝したり

編み物をして過ごした。
